HC Deb 18 June 1891 vol 354 c778
SIR HUSSEY VIVIAN (Swansea, District)

I beg to ask the Vice President of the Council whether, in view of the great importance of the South Wales and Monmouthshire coal field, and the fact that the coal fields of Durham,. Northumberland, Yorkshire, and Lancashire have been for the most part-geologically surveyed on the 6-inch scale, he will give directions that the geological survey of the mineral districts of South Wales and Monmouthshire shall be immediately taken in hand and vigorously prosecuted on that scale?

THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL (Sir W. HART DYKE,) Kent, Dartford

I will arrange with the Director General that the geological survey of the mineral districts of South Wales and Monmouthshire on 6-inch scale shall be commenced as soon as possible, and prosecuted as vigorously as the size of the available staff of surveyors and the exigencies of other branches of the work will allow.
