HC Deb 15 June 1891 vol 354 cc403-4
MR. LYELL (Orkney and Shetland)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether it is true, as reported, that a Bill has been introduced in the Portuguese Legislature to empower the Government to sell their possessions on the East Coast of Africa; and, if so, whether this Bill has the sanction and support of the Portuguese Government?

SIR J. FERGUSSON

We have no official information on the subject, nor do I understand that it is alleged that the Portuguese Government have moved in the direction stated.
