HC Deb 04 June 1891 vol 353 c1614
MR. CUNINGHAME GRAHAM

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will consider the advisability of endeavouring to avert the threatened strike of omnibus and road car men, and the probable great inconvenience to the public, by bringing pressure to bear on the companies to grant the men's reasonable demands, as was done by the Government in Vienna two years ago in a similar case?

MR. MATTHEWS

It has never been considered one of the functions of the Home Office to interfere in trade disputes between private companies and their employés, and I do not propose to create a precedent by acting on the suggestion of the hon. Member in this instance.
