HC Deb 04 June 1891 vol 353 c1599
DR. FARQUHARSON (Aberdeenshire, W.)

I beg to ask the First Commissioner of Works whether he will lay upon the Table of the House the Memorial recently received by him from the Trustees and Directors of the National Gallery, respecting additional space for the exhibition of pictures, and calling attention to the danger from fire to the buildings containing the National collection?

THE FIRST COMMISSIONER OF WORKS (Mr. PLUNKET,) Dublin University

The Memorial referred to in the question was not addressed to me, but to the Treasury, and I understand that it reiterates the views already expressed in this year's annual Report of the Director of the National Gallery. Those views were also stated in a question which was put to me on March 17 last, to which I replied on behalf of the Government. I cannot, therefore, at present see the necessity of laying the Memorial upon the Table of the House.
