HC Deb 04 June 1891 vol 353 cc1600-1
SIR J. SWINBURNE (Staffordshire, Lichfield)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is aware that at certain collieries in the Cannock Chase District the 22nd general rule of "The Coal Mines Regulation Act, 1887," which provides for the supply of suitable timber at a place in the mine convenient to the workmen, is systematically infringed; and whether he will take such steps as may be necessary to ensure the observance of the rule in the collieries in question?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. MATTHEWS,) Birmingham, E.

I am informed by the Inspector that he is not aware of any evasion of the rule quoted. If the hon. Baronet will supply me with the names of the collieries where the infringement is alleged to take place, immediate inquiry will be made.
