HC Deb 04 June 1891 vol 353 cc1611-2
MR. HENEAGE (Great Grimsby)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General what is the cause of the great delay in carrying out the proposed improvements in the postal arrangements in the Lincoln district; and whether the difficulty which has arisen between the Post Office Authorities and the Midland Railway as to the new sorting office at the Lincoln Station is a legal or practical difficulty?

THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES,) Cambridge University

The proposed improvements in the rural post arrangements in the Lincoln District cannot be carried out until the sorting office at Lincoln Railway Station is ready. Some little delay unavoidably took place in obtaining the necessary approval of the Midland Railway Company to the plans of the new office, but the sanction of that company has now been received, and the Office of Works has been asked to proceed with the building with all possible expedition.
