HC Deb 28 July 1891 vol 356 cc547-8
SIR H. HAVELOCK-ALLAN (Durham, S.E.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether the Secretary of State for India has had under his consideration the advisability of taking some steps to accelerate the present slow rate of promotion of officers of the Indian Staff Corps; if not, whether he will give early consideration to the subject; and whether he is in a position to make any communication to the House as to the views of the Government of India on this matter?

*SIR J. GORST

The Secretary of State does not at present contemplate taking the initiative in this matter, nor has he received any communication from the Government of India on the subject.
