HC Deb 30 January 1891 vol 349 cc1390-1
MR. DAVID THOMAS (Merthyr Tydvil)

I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will instruct his Inspectors of Mines to state in their Reports covering the year 1890, in the case of every person who met his death by accident, the hour of employment in which the accident occurred; and if he will give, approximately, the number of hours occupied underground by each individual Inspector during the past year, wherever a record has been kept?

MR. MATTHEWS

Instructions have been given in accordance with the first paragraph of the question. In future Returns the particulars will be given. The Annual Returns of the Inspectors state generally the number and character of the visits made, but no record has been kept of the number of hours occupied underground.
