HC Deb 29 January 1891 vol 349 c1276
MR. WATT (Glasgow, Camlachie)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate whether he is aware of the unanimous wish of the whole Police burghs in Scotland that the Burgh Police and Health (Scotland) Bill should be proceeded with during the present Session; and whether he can now state if it is the intention of Her Majesty's Government to do so?

THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. J. P. B. ROBERTSON, Bute)

The hon. Member is not quite correct in saying the wish of these burghs is unanimous in favour of this Bill, as, within the last few days, I received a letter from one of them to an opposite effect. I believe, however, that the wish is general. As regards the second part of the question, I have nothing to add to the answers I gave on 13th February and 5th December, and to the observations of the First Lord of the Treasury on the 9th December of last year, and I have no reason to believe that the position of matters is in any way changed.
