HC Deb 27 February 1891 vol 350 c1832
MR. HENNIKER HEATON

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether, now that the postage on letters sent from the United Kingdom to Australasia has been reduced from 5d. to 2½d. per half-ounce, it is intended to maintain the charge of 2d. for a postcard (only one halfpenny less than a letter) sent from this country to the Australasian Colonies?

MR. RAIKES

The 2d. rate was fixed for postcards from Australasia to the United Kingdom at the Postal Conference, which was held at Adelaide last year, and it would have been inconvenient to adopt a different rate in the opposite direction. The postage, therefore, remains for the present at 2d. in both directions.
