Gentleman whether any application has been made to the Government by the Imperial British East Africa Company to guarantee the capital for a railroad to be made under its auspices; and whether any assurance has been given to the Company, or to anyone connected with the Company, that such a guarantee will be granted; and, if so, whether he will undertake that no definite promise will be given before the House has had au opportunity to consider its expediency?
§ SIR J. FERGUSSONSuch an application has been made, and is under consideration. Parliamentary sanction would, of course, be required before such a guarantee can he carried into effect.
