HC Deb 15 May 1890 vol 344 c970
MR. SUMMERS

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether the House, having unanimously passed the Second Reading of a Bill allocating a fund under the control of the Land Commission, under the provisions of "The Irish Church Amendment Act, 1881," for the purposes of the Labourers (Ireland) Acts, it is the intention of the Government to abandon the clauses of the Land Purchase Bill which propose to apply the same fund in a different manner and for a different purpose; and, if not, whether the Government intend in any other way to give effect to the recent decision of the House?

*MR. W. H. SMITH

I think it unnecessary to enter into any controversy with the hon. Gentleman as to the description he gives in his question of the occurrence to which he refers; but I may express the opinion that the Land Purchase Bill will survive the Labourers Bill, and that, therefore, it is quite impossible for me to assume that any other appropriation of the Church Fund will be made than that provided in the Land Purchase Bill.
