I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if it is true, as stated, that the Imperial East African Company have entirely abolished slavery in the territories under their influence?

Her Majesty's Government are informed that the British East African Company have approved a Proclamation issued by their Administrator in Zanzibar, with the assent of the chiefs of the peoples concerned, decreeing immunity from slavery within a certain area in the company's territory and beyond the 10 mile limits It is understood that the Proclamation does not affect the status of slavery as now existent.
