HC Deb 15 May 1890 vol 344 c949
MR. SUMMERS

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will consider the propriety of still further carrying out the recommendations of the Select Committee of the House of Lords on Intemperance, by making a considerable increase in the duty on Excise Licences?

MR. GOSCHEN

A re-adjustment of the duty on Spirit Retailers' Licences was made in 1880, so the hon. Member will see that the alteration was made since the Report of the Select Committee, which was in 1879. An increase in those licences is not under consideration.
