HC Deb 15 May 1890 vol 344 c969
SIR H. HAVELOCK-ALLAN) (Durham, S.E.

I beg to ask the right hon. Gentleman the First Lord of the Treasury whether the Government propose to take any steps, during the present Session, to give effect to the recommendations of the Royal Commission on Army Administration, presided over by the noble Lord the Member for Rossendale; and whether he can give this House the assurance that no such steps will be taken until an opportunity has first been afforded, after ample notice, for a full discussion on recommendations involving such important Constitutional changes in the administration of the defensive resources of the country?

*MR. W. H. SMITH

The Government are giving careful consideration to the recommendations of the Royal Commission on the Army and Navy. We are not yet in a position to say what the result of that consideration will be; but a statement will be made on the subject by my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for War on the War Office Vote when that is reached.
