HC Deb 20 March 1890 vol 342 c1246
DR. TANNER

I beg to ask the Attorney General for Ireland if his attention has been directed to the action of Mr. Gardiner, R.M., at the Cork Police Office, in refusing, on Wednesday, the 12th instant, to dismiss a number of cases in which it was proved the defendants were illegally sued for rates, and granting decrees in the face of admitted irregularities, and in the absence of both defendants and plaintiffs; and whether the Government propose to take any action in the matter?

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. MADDEN,) University of Dublin

I am informed that a complainant appeared in each of the cases in which the Resident Magistrate granted a decree on Wednesday last. Some of the defendants did not appear. The Government do not see anything in the matter calling for action on their part.
