HC Deb 20 March 1890 vol 342 cc1251-2
DR. FARQUHARSON (Aberdeenshire, W.)

I beg to ask the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that much dissatisfaction exists among scientific men as to the sufficiency of the tests now used in the Mercantile Marine for the detection of colour blindness; and whether he will appoint a Committee of Experts to advise the Government on this important question?

* THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD OF TRADE (Sir M. HICKS BEACH,) Bristol, W.

I am sensible of the importance of this matter, and have been in communication with the Royal Society upon this subject, and I am happy to say that the society has appointed a scientific Committee to consider the whole question of colour blindness.
