HC Deb 17 March 1890 vol 342 c1091

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Bill be now read a second time."

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir R. WEBSTER,) Isle of Wight

This Bill is a formal one, to enable the Government to carry out certain engagements entered into by the Lord Chancellor, with regard to a re-arrangement of Offices.

COLONEL NOLAN

Can an Amendment be proposed to the Bill in Committee enabling Catholics to hold the Office of Lord Chancellor, and other Offices, in Ireland?

SIR R. WEBSTER

No; that is outside the scope of the Bill.

COLONEL NOLAN

I do not see much use in taking this Bill at this hour of the night.

Question put, and agreed to.

Bill read a second time, and committed to a Select Committee.
