PATRICK O'BRIEN (Monaghan, N.)I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that John Wall, who served under the Board of Works for 50 years as lock-keeper on the Ulster Canal at Magherarney, Smithboro, 854 County Monaghan, was dismissed by the Board of Works, without pension or other compensation, on the 31st of March 1889, when the Ulster Canal was transferred to the Lagan Company; and whether, in view of the assurance which was given on the part of the Government when the Ulster Canal and Tyrone Navigation Bill was in Committee, that any existing interests in respect of pensions should not be lost or injured by reason of the transfer of the canal from the Government to the Lagan Company, he will see that this man receives compensation?
