HC Deb 03 March 1890 vol 341 cc1651-2
ADMIRAL MAYNE (Pembroke and Haverfordwest)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether an arrangement has been made with the Treasury to provide for the payment of pensions to seaman pensioners without taking the money from the amount properly available for Greenwich Hospital pensions; if not, whether the Board will cease granting seamen's pensions at 50 years' old until proper provision is made for them, and discontinue what they have themselves publicly stated to be "a misappropriation of the Greenwich Hospital funds, which they do not feel justified in continuing"?

LORD G. HAMILTON

No arrangement has yet been made with the Treasury on this point. In reply to the second part of the question, the Admiralty, whilst adhering to their opinion, are not prepared to withhold from the members of the Pensioner Reserve the payment of pensions to which they have a claim.
