§ (No. 146.) COMMITTEE.
§ Order for Committee read.
§ (12.5.) MR. T. M. HEALYThis is a Bill in which a number of us take a great deal of interest. Now, the Government say that they are anxious to facilitate the business of the House. Will they agree to refer this Bill to a Select Committee, so that its scope may be widened? The right hon. Gentleman has promised to accept the Amendment of the hon. Member for Chelsea, but there are a number of other questions of a somewhat technical nature which will have to be raised. This is not a contentious Bill; and I hope that this suggestion of mine will be adopted.
§ (12.6.) THE ATTORNEY GENERAL (Sir R. WEBSTER,) Isle of WightThis Bill was brought in at the request of hon. Members on both sides of the House, in order to deal with a great hardship. The necessity for it has also been called to my attention by many Revising Barristers. A discussion on it at this stage would be quite out of order; but I would suggest that, by acting in concert, the difficulty may be overcome in a way which would obviate the necessity of acting on the suggestion of the hon. Member.
§ (12.7.) MR. T. M. HEALYWill the Government go further than they are doing in accepting the Amendment of the hon. Member for Chelsea? If not, I must object to further progress.
§ Committee deferred till Thursday.
