CAUSTON (Southwark, W.)I beg to ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Corporation of London have raised the pay of the City Police Force, and if he proposes to take similar action, and to what extent with regard to the Metropolitan Force?
§ MR. MATTHEWSI have no information on the subject alluded to in the question beyond newspaper reports. The Corporation of London have resources which will enable them always to keep the pay of the City Police above that-of the Metropolitan Force. I cannot admit that this example should serve as a guide for the Metropolis, nor am I in a-position to state that I shall take any action of the kind indicated.
