HC Deb 07 July 1890 vol 346 c932
SIR J. LUBBOCK (London University)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury whether his attention has been called to the state of the ruins of Ennis Abbey; and whether they could be placed under the protection either of the Irish Church Act or of the National Monuments Act?

THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. JACKSON, Leeds, N.)

Ennis Abbey is not one of the structures vested in the Board of Works, Ireland, by the Irish Church Temporalities Commission for preservation as a national monument, nor has it been scheduled as a monument for maintenance under the provisions of the Ancient Monuments Protection Act, 1882; and lam informed that the Board are advised that abbeys and structures of that character do not come within the scope of that Act.
