HC Deb 20 February 1890 vol 341 cc726-7
(3.30.) MR. HOWARD VINCENT (Sheffield, Central)

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if, having regard to the fact that the Public Trustee Bill passed the Upper House last Session, as well as a Bill enabling companies to undertake the offices of trustee and executor, and that like Bills have been again introduced, Her Majesty's Government will consent to the appointment of a Select Committee to consider the whole subject in its entirety, and to examine the clauses of the Bills?

MR. WARMINGTON (Monmouth, W.)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether the Government intend to re-introduce the Bill for the appointment of an official or Public Trustee; and, whether the Government will move for the appointment of a Select Committee, to which can be referred the Bill of the Government when introduced, and also the Bills introduced by private Members for the same or similar purposes?

THE CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER (Mr. GOSCHEN, St. George's, Hanover Square)

The Government intend to re-introduce the Bill for the appointment of a Public Trustee. The Bill will be introduced by the Lord Chancellor in another place, and when it comes down to this House the Government will decide how to proceed with it, endeavouring to ascertain the general sense of the House on the question.
