HC Deb 17 February 1890 vol 341 c443
MR. SALT (Stafford)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury if a Bill for the consolidation of the Lunacy Laws will be introduced during the present Session; and, if so, whether such Bill will be one of simple consolidation only, or whether fresh legislation will be introduced; and, if the latter, whether care will be taken to indicate distinctly in which respects new matter is contained in the Bill?

MR. W. H. SMITH

A Bill will shortly be introduced relating to the Lunacy Laws, and it will be one of simple consolidation only. No fresh legislation will be introduced. The Lunacy Laws Amendment Act of last Session comes into force on the 1st of May, and it is hoped that the Consolidation Act, as a Code for the guidance of those concerned in the administration of the law, may be passed before that date.
