HC Deb 11 February 1890 vol 341 c42
MR. BURT (Morpeth)

I beg to ask the Home Secretary a question of which I have given him private notice. It is whether he is able to state what steps have been taken to ensure a complete inquiry into the terrible explosion which has recently taken place in Monmouthshire?

THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. MATTHEWS, Birmingham, E.)

I have appointed distinguished counsel to attend the inquest on behalf of the Home Office, and also two Chief Inspectors to attend and give any assistance they can to the Coroner; and I have no doubt there will be a full investigation into all the circumstances attending this calamity.
