HC Deb 11 August 1890 vol 348 c518
MR. O'KELLY

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether the Athlone Board of Guardians have again elected Mr. Peter Keogh to be Master of the Workhouse, and by a majority of 25 to 9; whether it is true that no other candidate presented himself on this occasion; and whether, under these circumstances, the Local Government Board will withdraw their opposition to the election of Mr. Keogh?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

The facts are substantially as stated in the first two paragraphs. Having regard to the previous character of Mr. Keogh, the Local Government Board deem him unfit for the position to which it was proposed to appoint him. They cannot assent to his election.
