HC Deb 28 April 1890 vol 343 cc1516-7
MR. LENG (Dundee)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether he has information of the serious prevalence of smallpox at Calcutta; and whether it is contemplated by a Privy Council Order, or otherwise, to empower Local Authorities to detain in quarantine every ship which is infected with smallpox arriving at British ports?

SIR J. GORST

So far as the Secretary of State's information goes there has been no serious outbreak of smallpox in Calcutta, and nothing to call for special precautions in this country.
