HC Deb 10 May 1889 vol 335 c1699
MR. BLANE (Armagh, S.)

asked the Solicitor General for Ireland if it was true that the Rev. Daniel Stephens, C.C., of Falcarragh, had a sentence of six months' imprisonment for conspiracy confirmed on appeal by Judge Webb at the last Quarter Sessions in Letterkenny; if the principle evidence against him was a private correspondence found by the constabulary in a search in a neighbouring parish; if evidence was also given of his having taken part in the Plan of Campaign since January, 1888; if, on the evidence given in April, 1888, the Rev. Daniel Stephens, C.C., was sentenced to three months' imprisonment; and if the Government will permit him to be punished a second time for the same conspiracy?

THE SOLICITOR GENERAL FOR IRELAND (Mr. MADDEN,) University of Dublin

The facts are as stated in the former portion of the question. The evidence given at each of the prosecutions was not the same, nor were the prosecutions for the same offences.
