HC Deb 09 May 1889 vol 335 c1549
MR. WILLIAM REDMOND (Fermanagh, N.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, if it is true that Mr. Carew's health is such that he has been visited by the Prisons' Board doctor; and, if so, whether he will give that gentleman's report concerning Mr. Carew's state at present?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

The medical member of the Prisons' Board has visited Mr. Carew. His report shows as the result of his examinations that there is no evidence of any organic disease or any more serious derangement of health than dyspepsia and a weak circulation. It would be contrary to a well-established practice to lay a confidential report on the Table of the House. Dr. O'Farrell suggests that better air and exercise might be obtained at Galway, and I think it might be well to carry out the suggestion if the reasons which induced the prisoner to move to Kilmainham are at an end.
