HC Deb 06 May 1889 vol 335 cc1243-4
MR. BROADHURST (Nottingham, W.)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether, in inviting tenders for the shipbuilding in connection with the proposed increase of the Royal Navy, the Government will only communicate with such firms who pay the standard rate of wages to the workmen they employ?

THE FIRST LORD OF THE ADMIRALTY (Lord G. HAMILTON, Middlesex, Ealing)

The Admiralty see no reason to depart from their usual practice with regard to putting out of the contracts for the new ships, and will invite the firms on the list to tender as before.
