HC Deb 06 May 1889 vol 335 c1232
SIR JOHN SWINBURNE (Staffordshire, Lichfield)

asked the Vice-Chamberlain what steps Her Majesty's Government intend taking with a view to stamp out and prevent the constant recurrence of anthrax amongst cattle in the neighbourhood of Cottesbrooke, in the county of Northampton?

THE VICE CHAMBERLAIN (Viscount LEWISHAM,) Lewisham

It does not appear from the returns that anthrax has existed in Northamptonshire to any serious extent. The total losses on seven farms on which the disease has appeared since the beginning of the year amount to seven cattle and three sheep. Under these circumstances it does not seem to be necessary to adopt any exceptional measures.
