HC Deb 22 March 1889 vol 334 c516
MR. KILBRIDE (Kerry, S.)

asked the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland whether, inasmuch as the proprietor of the Carlow Nationalist and Leinster Times has been sentenced to two months' imprisonment in default of entering into recognizances to be of good behaviour for publishing a bonâ fide report of a meeting of the National League at Luggacurren, the Government will direct a prosecution of the Carlow Sentinel, a Tory newspaper, for publishing in February 1888 a letter attacking the Leighlin bridge Branch of the National League for not boycotting an alleged land grabber in the district, and in particular attacking the president, Rev. J. E. Delaney, C.C.?

*MR. A. J. BALFOUR

This question having been brought before the Attorney General for Ireland, he has called for a copy of the newspaper mentioned and for a Report as to the circumstances.
