HC Deb 18 March 1889 vol 334 c33
MR. CUNINGHAME GRAHAM

asked the Lord Advocate if he could give any information as to the arrest of John Wilson, miners' agent, of Broxburn, and of John Nichol and Patrick Holmes, miners; and if the practice of "picketing" well known among Scotch miners is against the law; and, if so, which law?

*MR. J. P. B. ROBERTSON

These men were arrested by the police on a charge of intimidating workmen. The facts were inquired into and found not to sustain the charge. Picketing is against the law in cases in which the pickets act in contravention of the 7th section of the Conspiracy and Protection of Property Act, 1875.
