HC Deb 07 March 1889 vol 333 c1153
MR. H. GARDNER (Essex, Saffron Walden)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he still proposes to replace the present iron telegraph wires by copper wires; and, if so, when?

MR. RAIKES

So long as the difference in the price between copper and iron wire is so large, the Post Office, in erecting new wires, must make use of iron. There has been no intention of generally replacing iron wire by copper.
