HC Deb 27 June 1889 vol 337 cc896-7
CAPTAIN PRICE

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether amongst the men discharged from Devon- port Dockyard from time to time there are several who have served their apprenticeship there; and, whether he could take steps to avoid the loss of these men who have been trained and gained several years' experience at the expense of the country?

LORD GEORGE HAMILTON

Among the men recently discharged from Devon-port Dockyard some had been apprentices in the yard. Though it is desirable to retain as many as possible of the men who have passed through their apprenticeship in the yard, I am unable to give any guarantee that none will be discharged in the future.
