HC Deb 24 June 1889 vol 337 cc551-2
MR. WILLIAM SINCLAIR

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury, if, in view of the Motion for Friday 28th June, standing in the name of the hon. Member for South Derry, and which has first place for discussion that evening, he will lay upon the Table of the House, and have distributed to Members in time for the debate, Copies of the original charters under which various London Societies held property in Ireland, and of any subsequent charters modifying them; or, should the expense of printing these charters be too considerable, if he will cause to be issued, in a convenient form, a memorandum containing all the clauses in such charters which have any reference to the objects for which lands were granted to the various Companies, and the allocation of the revenues which might be derived from such lands?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

My right hon. Friend has requested me to answer the question. Such investigations as I have made have not resulted in my obtaining any information about these charters, which are not in any office over which the Government have control, so far, as I am at present aware. I will make further investigations, and if the hon. Member can himself suggest how I can get at the facts, I shall- be glad to act upon his suggestion.
