HC Deb 24 June 1889 vol 337 cc542-3
MR. WILLIAM SINCLAIR (Falkirk Burghs)

I beg to ask the Lord Advocate if he can give, either accurately or approximately, the amount of fees received in schools in Scotland which participate in the Government Grant, for infant schools, and for each of the five compulsory standards?

* THE LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. J, P. B. ROBERTSON,) Bute

The Department has no sufficiently reliable data upon which to state accurately the amount of fees received in State-aided schools for infants arid for each of the five compulsory standards. But following certain Returns (which, however, are not quite complete, and which probably represent rather more than the actual receipts), my Lords think the total amount may be approximately stated as, about £265,000, of which about £37,000 is paid for infants and the following for each of the five standards:—I., £38,000; II., £42,000; III., £50,000; IV £66,000; and V., £48,000.
