HC Deb 18 July 1889 vol 338 cc721-2
SIR ROPER LETHBEIDGE (Kensington, N.)

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether the India Office Departmental Report on the Public Service Commission's recommendations has yet been presented; and, if so, if it can be laid upon the Table of the House; and, whether any, and what steps have been taken by the Government of India to carry out the recommendations of the Indian Finance Committee in regard to the Simla exodus, and to other portions of the State expenditure?

* SIR JOHN GORST

The recommendations of the Public Service Commission are still under the consideration of the Secretary of State in Council. No further Papers can be given at present. The recommendations of the Finance Committee are being dealt with by the Government of India, who are framing regulations, under the Secretary of State's instructions, in regard to the Simla exodus

SIR R. LETHBRIDGE

Arising out of the answer, I should like to ask whether the Papers will be laid on the Table of the House in due course before action is taken on this Report?

SIR J. GORST

I cannot promise that no action will be taken until the Papers are laid on the Table of the House; but I am sure the Secretary of State will desire to give them to the House with all speed.
