HC Deb 18 July 1889 vol 338 c703
MR. KING

I beg to ask the Under Secretary of State for India whether any arrangement has yet been made for filling up the post of Director General of Telegraphs in India, vacated by the retirement of Sir a Cappell; and whether, in view of the long delay in promotion in the Indian Telegraph Department, and the consequent dissatisfaction in the service, care will be taken in filling up the post to promote to it a member of the Indian Telegraph Department?

* THE UNDER SECRETARY OF STATE FOR INDIA (Sir J. GORST,) Chatham

Not yet; as Sir A. Cappel, who is in this country, only sent in his resignation on the 1st of this month. There is reason to believe that the Acting Director General will succeed him.
