HC Deb 11 July 1889 vol 338 cc127-8
MAJOR RASCH (Essex, S.E.)

I beg to ask the Vice Chamberlain whether, with reference to pleuro-pneumonia, any convictions have been obtained for concealment of the disease; and, if so, what penalties have been inflicted?

THE VICE CHAMBERLAIN (Viscount LEWISHAM,) Lewisham

It appears from the Reports which are received from time to time from Local Authorities, and from reports which are published in newspapers, that a considerable number of prosecutions are instituted for non-notification of disease. The fines have varied in different cases from 10s. to £20. The Privy Council have no means of keeping a record of the prosecutions which are instituted by Local Authorities.
