HC Deb 08 July 1889 vol 337 c1675
MR. WILLIAM CORBET (Wicklow, E.)

I beg to ask the Secretary to the Treasury what is the rateable valuation of the town of Arklow; what is the amount of its present liability in relation to the harbour works; whether he is aware that the south pier is being undermined, owing to the want of protection which a north pier would give; and whether, looking to the inability of the town to bear a further impost, the Treasury will give a small grant to lay down the concrete blocks which were made for the construction of the north pier, and, if necessary, introduce a short Bill for the purpose?

* THE SECRETARY TO THE TREASURY (Mr. JACKSON,) Leeds, N.

I am informed that the rateable value of the town of Arklow is about £5,500, and that the town is liable for an annuity for a term of 50 years, in relation to the harbour works.
