HC Deb 01 July 1889 vol 337 c1157
DR. KENNY (Cork, S.)

I beg to ask the Chief Secretary to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland if he can state whether Canon Keller was acting within his legal rights in refusing to leave the grounds of Gurtroe Chapel, County Cork, on the 18th ultimo when ordered to do so by the police, the said grounds being his private property; whether, on his refusal to leave, the police acted legally in removing him by force; and if he can further state whether, in Ireland, it is lawful for the police to enter, without a warrant, or without swearing the proper information, on private premises, and remove therefrom the legal owners, when no illegal act is being at the time committed by the said owners on such premises?

MR. A. J. BALFOUR

The Divisional Commissioner reports that Canon Keller was neither ordered to leave the chapel grounds nor was he removed from the grounds. The other points in the question, therefore, do nut arise.
