HC Deb 26 February 1889 vol 333 cc381-2
MR. SYDNEY BUXTON (Tower Hamlets, Poplar)

I beg to ask the First Lord of the Treasury whether the Government, in accordance with the pledge given by him on 12th November, 1888, have examined into the question of the position of the Law Officers of the Crown in regard to their taking private practice; and whether they have come to any conclusion on the subject?

MR. W. H. SMITH

There has not been time to give consideration to the matter to which the hon. Gentleman refers. He will remember I said it was one of considerable difficulty.

MR. SYDNEY BUXTON

Will the right hon. Gentleman undertake to examine into the matter, and give the House his decision before the Estimates come on?

MR. W. H. SMITH

I cannot give a positive undertaking, but I certainly will endeavour to examine into the subject.
