HC Deb 23 August 1889 vol 340 cc239-40
MR. BYENE

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he has received a memorial from the principal inhabitants of Rathdangan, County Wicklow, and neighbourhood, signed by the clergy of the district, a magistrate, poor law guardians, traders, residents, farmers, and the police superintendent, applying for a post office to be established at that place; and whether, inasmuch as Rathdangan is a populous village with considerable correspondence, the centre of a large district four miles from Kiltegan, the nearest post office, and having regard to the inconvenience which the present arrangements have caused, he will grant and order that a post office be established at Rathdangan as soon as possible?

SIR H. MAXWELL

I am informed that the Postmaster General has received a Memorial from the principal inhabitants of Rathdangan, County Wicklow, and the neighbourhood, praying for the establishment of a Post office at that place. It has received careful consideration, but the postmaster General regrets that the amount of correspondence to be benefited is found to be insufficient to warrant the expense which would be incurred in complying with the Memorialists' wishes.
