§ (1.) Resolved, That it appears by the Navy Appropriation Account for the year ended the 31st day of March 1888, and the statement appended thereto, as follows, viz.:—
§ (a.) That the gross expenditure for certain Navy Services exceeded the estimate of such expenditure by a total sum of £199,462 7s. 5d., as shown in Column No. 1 of the Schedule hereto appended;
366§ and also for deepening the harbour and making it more easy of access. I believe no fear need be entertained as to the general condition of the pier. I will have the matter most carefully watched, and I may say that measurements have been taken from time to time which show that the pier is now in a position of rest, and that there is no movement. I am sure the hon. Member will be glad to learn that no change has occurred in it for months past.
