HC Deb 09 August 1889 vol 339 c894
COLONEL HUGHES

I beg to ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the reason for the delay in obtaining Treasury sanction for the proposed new Post Office at Woolwich, recommended by the Postmaster General?

A LORD OF THE TREASURY (Sir H. MAXWELL, Wigton)

Perhaps the hon. Member will allow me to answer this question. Communications are passing between the Post Office, the War Office, and the Treasury, with a view to seeing whether the necessity for a new Post Office may be obviated by the adoption of measures calculated to relieve the pressure on the present office, which is chiefly due to the large number of Army pensioners requiring to be paid by money orders.
