HC Deb 02 August 1889 vol 339 cc184-5
MR. ESSLEMONT (Aberdeen, E.)

I beg to ask if representations had been made to the Government in favour of the extension of Lord Ash bourne's Act to Scotland?

* THE FIRST LORD OF THE TREASURY (MR. W. H. SMITH, Strand, Westminster)

I have received information to the effect that representations have been made to the Secretary for Scotland's Office as to the extension of the Crofters Act in regard to land purchase. Those representations will receive consideration, although I cannot hold out any expectation that it will be in the power of the Government, without the most serious consideration, to extend the system of land purchase in the direction indicated.
