HC Deb 02 August 1889 vol 339 cc177-8
MR. DAVID THOMAS (Merthyr Tydvil)

I beg to ask the Postmaster General whether he can yet state the results of the inquiry of the Departmental Committee appointed early last Session to consider the question of the conveyance by Railway Companies of letters that have not passed through the post; and, whether he has arrived at a satisfactory settlement of the legal difficulties attending the question?

* THE POSTMASTER GENERAL (Mr. RAIKES, University of Cambridge)

This subject was carefully inquired into by a Departmental Committee who made a Report to me recommending the adoption of arrangements to meet the object in view. As a result of this Report, the Inspector General of Mails has been in communication with the Railway Companies; and as soon as I am in possession of their views, I hope to be able to come to a satisfactory conclusion in the matter.
