HC Deb 12 April 1889 vol 335 c365
MR. PICKERSGILL (Bethnal Green, S.W.)

I wish to ask the First Lord of the Admiralty whether it is proposed to hold an inquiry as to the occurrences subsequent to the stranding of the Sultan, and the measures taken to save the ship; and, if so, what will he the form of the inquiry, and when and where will it be held?

LORD G. HAMILTON

It will be necessary to hold a further inquiry into the occurrences subsequent to the stranding of the sultan in which the injury inflicted on the ship, and the working of the watertight compartments and other arrangements, will have to be investigated. I am not yet in a position to state what the form of the inquiry will be, nor where and when it will be held.
